Project IDEAL is a teacher preparation program intended to better prepare teachers to work with students with disabilities. Funded by the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities, with Federal funds made available by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Administration on Developmental Disabilities, the project is run by a dedicated staff in the College of Education at Texas Tech University. Since its inception the project has gained attention from universities across the United States, and more importantly, has helped new general education teachers enter the school system with the knowledge they need to make learning accessible to all students, regardless of any disabilities they may have.
“Thanks; I'd become a double fan if it was possible! Without you guys, I'd be having to learn website design, programming and who knows what else. I TRULY appreciate all of you!!!!!!!!”

After using Web Standards and Accessibility techniques in our web development for years, all of our knowledge and skills were put to the test with Project IDEAL. Although their website was only required to meet Section 508 standards, the goal was to make the site as accessible as possible for obvious reasons. When members of the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities, who fund the project, comment that the site is better designed and more accessible than their own, we feel like we accomplished the goal pretty well.
