It's a different kind of summer camp.
The Kent Cummins Magic Camp is a day camp runs from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M., Monday through Friday. Before and after care is available from 7:30 A.M. until 6:00 P.M.. For detailed information on this year's summer sessions or to register search the FAQs.
The Kent Cummins Magic Camp is a multi-sensory learning experience that uses the fun of magic, puppets and juggling to enhance campers' self-esteem and teach important life skills through modeling appropriate behavior. At The Magic Camp, everyone feels like a star!
Campers of varying ages work together in a non-competitive place, in which participants are challenged to compete with themselves rather than with other campers. "Different people learn in different ways," explains Cummins, the Camp Director. “Our experience has demonstrated that these kinds of activities engage children's imaginations in ways that can help them with traditional learning activities as well.”
During the past 14 years, the Magic Camp has received many awards. For example, it was named best specialty camp in Austin two years running by the readers of Austin Family Magazine. It was designated the most creative small business of 2004 by BIG Austin.
The Kent Cummins Magic Camp maintains a camper-to-teacher ratio of 5 to 1 or better, with adult staff members, teenage counselors, and counselors in training. In addition, there are guest performers and teachers sharing their expertise throughout the sessions. Parents are welcome to visit at any time.
